Painting Waterproof Foam Board

Step 1 sand along the edges of the foam to create a smooth finish. Make sure to wear a face mask while doing this since the particles can be inhaled. Apply two or three coats of an acrylic paint to a foam craft using a stiff paintbrush. Use a premade kit for this type of project.

Tips for painting foam board. Take the foam brush and dip it into the paint gathering a small amount on your brush. Attach the tongue and groove insulation boards to the concrete wall with adhesive. For new construction use rigid boards to insulate slabs and the outside of foundation walls.

If you have a choice use spray paint over brush applied paint. This helps you get the paint into the pores of the foam. For a basement remodeling project consider insulating basement walls with foam board. Dip your foam brush in the poured paint.

Foam board insulation is easy to cut with a circular saw with a masonry blade or scored with a utility knife and snapped like you would drywall. Spray paint does not leave streaks when applied and you have just as many color options with spray paint as you do with other paints. When painting foam insulation it is important to remember to prime the surface to seal the foam. Pour small amounts of paint onto the plate at first you can always add more if necessary.

Pour your paint onto a paper plate or scrap piece of paper to easily dip your brush.
