My New Roof Is Wavy

A new roof that is of a heavier material if the original roof was wood shingles a light weight material and it was replaced with concrete tile a heavy material then the roof may sag or be wavy because it was not structurally designed to carry the heavier load weight.

This is a very unfortunate issue for everyone involved. This is normally not a problem unless you experience windy conditions that can catch the shingles. Poor framing practice is one of the more common reasons for roof waviness. When some of the crowns are up and some are down then the roof has a wavy look but it is still structurally sound.

This is a bad move a roofing company should not lay new roofing shingles over shingles that are wavy. The carpenter may have failed to put all of the crowns up on site framed roofs. This type of roof wave is usually only seen after a new installation. The problem is you had a contractor do it and not a roofer. If the felt paper was bubbly or wet when it was applied then it will cause the roof to look wavy. Having wet or poorly placed felt paper under your shingles can cause your roof to be wavy.

If you ve recently gotten a new roof and it got all wavy on you then here are the possibilities. Inspect the plywood from the attic and look for cracks sagging or rotting. A new roof will be required after stripping both layers of shingles to achieve a quality flat look. A layer of felt paper acts as a base and goes down before the shingles for every installation.

Applying a temporary adhesive will do the trick. It is not uncommon for a new roof to look a bit wavy until this permanent seal is created. Underlayment is what we call the product placed between the decking and and the shingles. Damaged decking could also cause a wavy look to shingles.
