A common cause of a malfunctioning garage door sensor is lack of power supply. The light on the sending sensor should always be on even if the sensors are not aligned properly. Watch the sensors as the garage door operates. If they both have lights on then continue. Any flickering indicates alignment is needed. Remember that the light on both sensors must be lit up solid they can be green amber or red. Then take an object large enough to set between the 2 sensors and see what the sensors do one turns off. The sending sensor is usually amber or red and the receiving sensor is usually green or yellow. The garage door sensor yellow light and the green light together create a solid illumination.
